khadi cloth

インドよりカディのクロスが入荷しました。

先日、映画『ガンジー』を見たのですよ。実際カディのことは知っていたつもりでした。手紡ぎの糸を手織りしたインドのクロスとか、ガンジーがイギリスの植民地支配から独立するために自国で生産した布（カディ）を着ようと運動したことなど。。でも、映画を観て、どんな風に、どんなスピリットでこの布が生まれたのかをより深く知りました。ガンジーという人についても。ガンジー自らが糸を紡いで、インドが勝ち得た自由。とても深い歴史が背後にあったんですね。一緒にマドラスチェックのハンカチも入荷です。

色と柄がきれいで明るい気持ちにさせられます。余談ですが、映画を見てガンジーを取材したLIFE誌ジャーナリストのマーガレットホワイトという人に興味が湧いたのですが、自伝は絶版のよう。。なんで？

I watche the movie “ Gandhi” the other day.Actually I have known the detail about khadi. y’know like .. they are hand spun cotton cloth,, and Mahatma Gandhi promoted them for independence from British colonial rule.. and so on…but, I learned how khadi have been penetrate deeply into India society after watching “ Gandhi”. Gandhi have helped people in India to become self reliant by spinning himself. So, I knew how the kadhi have been a fablric for human values. so deep…( i became quite interested in Margaret Bouke White who is photo journalist for LIFE magazine. Gandhi interviewed and was taken photographs by her. but her autobiography was out of print! i donno why...) we also have various madras check handkerchiefs in stock! the color and pattern cheer me up! so cute!
